Cherishing Quilts of the Past & Inspiring Quilters of Today!

Hoffman Challenge

Posted by sqadmin

It's the 23rd aniversary of the Hoffman Challenge, and we're inviting you to take part!  Every year Hoffman releases a new collection of fabrics that are specifically designed and released for this challenge, and because it's Hoffman fabric, you know you're using some of the best materials around.

The task at hand is a simple one: create anything that your heart desires!  The only big rule is that you use a nicely recognizable amount of the challenge fabric (pictured below, the star fabric of the challenge is in the middle), but you can't use more than two yards of that fabric anywhere (including the backing).  The specifics to this and other rules are listed on the Hoffman Challenge Rules site.  Of course you can submit more than one entry... so, get started now!

Entry categories include: quilts, dolls, clothing, or accessories.  Oh, and be sure to take lots and lots of good pictures of your newly sewed masterpiece, because if it is chosen as one of the finalists to represent the collection and the challenge, it could be on tour and on display throughout the USA for a whole year!  Wow, you could create a sewed celebrity....   If you click over to the Hoffman Challenge Official site, you can also check out previous years' fabrics and previous challenges, as well as FAQ for this year and a list of prizes for the 2010 winners!  Keep in mind, you can't win if you don't submit your sewed masterpiece in time: July 23rd 2010 is the last day any entries will be accepted in competition.

We have the Hoffman Challenge fabrics set up on display here in the shop and they are a particularly lovely collection of green, turquoise, and blue with an assortment of batiks, florals, paisleys, and lattice.  Keep in mind, you're not limited to just these fabrics in just this collection--you can use any fabric you want, as long as you use that one star fabric mentioned above.  So, be creative, have fun, and let us know what you're sewing!
